Finite-Size Correlation Length and Violations of Finite-Size Scaling

We address the problem of the definition of the finite-volume correlation length. First, we study the large-N limit of the N -vector model, and we show the existence of several constraints on the definition if regularity of the finite-size scaling functions and correct anomalous behaviour above the upper critical dimension are required. Then, we study in detail a model in which the zero mode in prohibited. Such a model is a generalization of the fixed-magnetization Ising model which is equivalent to the lattice gas. Also in this case, we find that the finite-volume correlation length must satisfy appropriate constraints in order to obtain regular finite-size scaling functions, and, above the upper critical dimension, an anomalous scaling behaviour. The large-N results are confirmed by a one-loop calculation in the lattice φ4 theory.

Finite-size scaling analysis of percolation in three-dimensional correlated binary Markov chain random fields.
Percolation and finite-size scaling properties in three-dimensional binary correlated Markov-chain random fields on a cubic lattice are computed by extensive Monte Carlo simulation. At short correlation scales, the percolation threshold in correlated random fields decreases as the correlation scale increases. The rate of decrease rapidly diminishes for correlation lengths larger than 2-3 lattic...

Using single cluster flip Monte Carlo simulations we accurately determine new finite size scaling functions which are expressed only in terms the variable x = ξL/L, where ξL is the correlation length in a finite system of size L. Data for the d=2 and d=3 Ising models, taken at different temperatures and for different size lattices, show excellent data collapse over the entire range of scaling v...
متن کاملFinite-size scaling and corrections in the Ising model with Brascamp-Kunz boundary conditions
The Ising model in two dimensions with the special boundary conditions of Brascamp and Kunz is analyzed. Leading and subdominant scaling behavior of the Fisher zeros are determined exactly. The exact finite-size scaling, with corrections, of the specific heat is determined both at critical and effective critical ~pseudocritical! points. The shift exponents associated with the scaling of these e...

We compare two methods of obtaining critical parameters for a quantum Hamiltonian using a finite size scaling approach. A finite element and basis set method were used in conjunction with the finite size scaling to obtain the critical parameters for the Hulthen potential. The critical parameters obtained analytically were the coupling constant c= 1 2 , the critical exponents for the energy =2 a...
متن کاملThe Birth of the Infinite Cluster: Finite-size Scaling in Percolation
We address the question of finite-size scaling in percolation by studying bond percolation in a finite box of side length n, both in two and in higher dimensions. In dimension d = 2, we obtain a complete characterization of finite-size scaling. In dimensions d > 2, we establish the same results under a set of hypotheses related to so-called scaling and hyperscaling postulates which are widely b...
